The best and simpler way to invest your money is to buy and hold well diversified broader market index fund.
Here, I’m introducing some of the most popular investment portfolios from Vanguard Canada. These are three-fund or one fund portfolios, ranging from aggressive, moderate, to conservative.
In all three portfolios, each has Canadian bonds, Canadian stocks, and international stocks (including the U.S) allocation. DIY (Do It Yourself) investors will find this very helpful in building their own investment portfolios.

Vanguard’s One-Fund-Solution
To make things even simpler, you can invest in just One-Ticker-Solution from Vanguard Canada. These will be equivalent to above portfolios, with a Management Expense Ration (MER) of .25%.
- Growth ETF Portfolio (VGRO), One-Ticker-Solution, to replace portfolio one. It is a 20/80 portfolio.
- Balanced ETF Portfolio (VBAL), One-Ticker-Solution, to replace portfolio two. It is a 40/60 portfolio.
- Conservative ETF Portfolio (VCNS), One-Ticker-Solution, to replace portfolio three. It is a 60/40 portfolio.
Also, there’s an All-Equity ETF Portfolio (VEQT) from Vanguard which invests 100% in Canadian, U.S and international equities. This fund has a Management Expense Ration (MER) of 0.25% as well.
